There is a white coffee mug standing by a white elbow. Both are colder now. There is a great pot of muscular Clivias in flower. It is only a disease.
In Newbury they have parked cars with cardboard ut out policemen in them parked at places people are likely to speed. They say that people slow down when they see them. Policemen. Scarecrows. Scarecrows never work for long. We will soon have occasional police sirens to add to the effect. Overhead shadows of policemen. The flying squad. The fraud squad. Cardboard policemen served by janitors.
Jill brought all your clothes back and you didn't want them. You had just cleared up and then got all your clothes back. Today of all days. Like boxes going back. The ones that were not left behind.
If you are looking, sooner or later that is what you will find. Don't look. see.
The flower show at Falmouth has the strange disorganised feel it always has. The polyanthus are the same. The exhibitors display the same plants. A year older. That is all. The same chaos and then change back to order. The stand is very simple and interesting in colour but vague and lumpish in form. It is the worst display I have ever mounted. But it may well be judged highly. I could well believe it. Vague and lumpish. The minds of judges. It is certainly very strange. pile upon pile of Pieris and some white to lighten it in the middle. A splash of ugly coloured mauve double primroses seep along the front row. Naturally people start to like them. It is that reality can be suspended briefly. It is sunny and dry here when it is raining.
This is the space. It did not feel natural to move so close and now to leave a space. But this is the space that has to be. That is how it has to be. That is how space happens. It is space to allow people room to arrange themselves decorously. People need that space and so I left it. It was natural to do so. It all flew by so fast it looks like nothing being stationary.
In the end there were seven ducklings and a bird with only one leg. It was quite clear that the rooks all have young now, because this evening there were two dead on the road where they had fallen. Fallen fully feathered.
