Buoys. - It is manifestly impossible that any reliance can be placed on buoys always maintaining their exact position. Buoys should therefore
be regarded as warnings and not as infallible navigating marks, especially when in exposed positions; and a ship should always, when
possible, be navigated by bearings or angles of fixed objects on shore and not by buoys.
Gas Buoys - The lights shown by gas buoys cannot be implicitly relied on, as, if occulting or flashing, the apparatus may get out of order, or
the light may be altogether extinguished. These lights in the British islands are from 5 to 217 candle power.
